One day it occurred to me that although I had been living in Boulder for nearly 15 years, I hadn’t visited Boulder Falls but maybe 2 or 3 times, and couldn’t actually remember the last time I was there. So I made an intentional trip, partly to reacquaint myself with this beautiful location just minutes from my home, and partly to test out a new camera. This camera came with some interesting film simulations, and while experimenting with a black-and-white film, and color grading, I found an edit that really created a particular look that felt so good and seemed so unique, and I wanted to apply it to other photos. I call it the Surreal Falls, since it has a sort of surreal mood, almost like transporting you to an alternate universe where things are the same yet different.
